Wednesday Night Anime – 1/9/07

January 15, 2008

First WNA of the new year.  This was a totally retro Wednesday Night Anime in the fact that it was actually held on a Wednesday.  Unfortunately, our plans of actually watching anime got scrapped.

In attendance this week were: Me, Erin, Chris, Omlette, Bart, DES(!),  and towards the end, Liz.

Dinner consisted of Pizza.  Who knows how many hams were planted in the apartment while I was out getting the Pizza.

We played a game of Illuminati with two sets of quick rules (getting a group to start with, less groups required for victory).  It started off as a pretty passive game.  I imagine this happened because Thor wasn’t there.  As usual, we felt Omlette was not much of a threat, so we did not put in much effort into holding him off.  Eventually, Chris started getting too powerful.  This prompted Bart, Chris, and I to start turning on each other.  During this time, Omlette made a surprise attack for victory.  He launched a privileged  attack against a chain of Bart’s groups.  Bart didn’t have enough money to hold him off and no one hard cards to stop the privilege.

Fate was on our side that day.  Omlette rolled a 12.  Bart went next and pointed out that Chris could very easily take that chain of groups away from him.  However, in order to launch an attack against Chris, Bart needed both Omlette and me to give him lots of cash for an attack.  Since we didn’t want to give up our hard earned cash, and since Chris needed 4 groups to win, Bart ended up taking the 5 free megabucks and ending his turn.

As expected, Chris attacked Bart with a privileged attack and there was nothing we could do to stop him from winning that battle.  Luckily, Chris still needed one more group for the win and he was out of cards.  Unluckily, he was the bavarians.  a mere 5 megabucks later, he attained an uncontrolled group from the center of the table.  BAWWWWWWW!

Holiday Gift Guide

November 27, 2007

Now that Black Friday has passed, it’s time to enter the fray in the hope of getting all your shopping done in time for the holidays.  If you want to avoid all the chaos in the stores, you could always try to do your shopping online.  However, if you’re like me, you never have a very good idea of what to get people.  Luckily for people like us, Dave Barry publishes his Holiday Gift Guide every year.  All the products are available online, so you can finish your shopping from the comfort of your living room.  You have to know at least one person who could use a Ten Plagues Bowling Set.

Death of a Hero

November 15, 2007

My friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I must bring you terrible news.  What was meant to be a night of joy turned into a nightmare of immense magnitude.  Kaiju Big Battel: More Better Fighto occurred last Friday at the Warsaw in Brooklyn.  It was rumored that Pedro had put a hit out on Silver Potato.  Pedro is one of the most awesome plantains that I have ever met.  I didn’t think there was any way he would commit such an act.

However, during the match of Silver Potato vs Super Wrong, the Iron Brothers stepped into the ring, bagged potato, and left the scene after being given a large bag of cash from Pedro.

A video of the event may be seen here:

After a match or two, we were presented with a live feed from the alleyway behind the Warsaw:

Wednesday Night Anime – 11/13/07

November 14, 2007

As a continuation of our usual night to hang out from college, every week my friends will meet up at my apartment for “Wednesday Night Anime.”  The name is mostly a moot point at the moment, since it happens on Tuesday nights now.  We also haven’t been watching too much in the way of anime either.  However, now it’s tradition and that makes it ok.

There’ve been plenty of times when I’ve been trying to remember when some event took place at Wednesday Night Anime and completely drawn a blank.  In the interest of keeping track of these sorts of things, I may as well blog about what goes on each night.  Plus, it’ll give some healthy competition to Omlette’s blog.  In this free market internet economy, healthy competition is always good.

Brief Introduction

November 13, 2007

Chances are, if you’re coming to this site, you already know me.  Therefore, this introduction might be a moot point.  However, for those of you who don’t know me (Why the hell are you here?), or those that do know me but don’t get the reference, I should probably explain the title of this blog.

A few years ago, Nintendo came up with this game called The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. I was still in college at this point, which is a such great time for multiplayer games.  It had a 4 player versus mode that my friends and I would play every week on Wednesdays (That was the day of the week that we’d all gather in my dorm room to watch anime and play video games).

In the multiplayer mode of this game, there are these crystal balls that appear every once and a while. If you pick up the crystal ball, it roulettes between a few different options. If I recall correctly, they are bomb-chus, a carrot, and a chicken. The bomb-chus just move around the screen and blow up if they hit you. If you get the carrot, you’re suddenly riding a horse that you can use to flatten your opponents. The chicken, however, is where the action’s at. If you throw the chicken, it flies around the screen, picks a random enemy, steals one of his hearts, then brings it to you to replenish your health.

I’m not entirely sure why, but I would always have great luck with the chickens. Somehow, I got the chicken most times I got the crystal ball. Maybe my timing was perfectly in sync with this chicken or something. But there I’d be towards the end of the match. 2 opponents already defeated. The remaining player and I both have less than a heart left. The crystal ball appears. I race for it, grab it, and throw it. Clutch Chicken! Victory! Clutch Chicken FTW!
